Stone Age

The age when the prehistoric man began to use stones for utilitarian purpose is termed as Stone Age.

STONE AGE:

History of India starts from stone age & it has been divided in to 3 broad divisions :-

1. Paleolithic Age( from unknown time- till 8000 B.C)

2. Mesolithic Age (8000- 4000 B.C)

3. Neolithic Age (4000-2500 B.C)

Let us study how these three Ages were differentiated from each other

Old stone age Middle stone age also known as Microlith age(small stone age due to small stone tools used) New stone age
Human beings were food gatherers & hunters. domesticated the animals (for flesh & milk) Cultivation of crops started here
More pointed & sharp stone tools began to use Polished stone tools began to use
Human race started to live over the banks of rivers.(fishing purpose) Manufactured  pottery
Emergence of village community

Koldihwa (near Allahabad) Earliest evidence of RICE
Chopani Mando (Uttar Pradesh) Earliest evidence of POTTERY in whole world
Gufkaral (Kashmir) Pit dwelling, wheat &barley
Burzahom (Kashmir) Evidence of pit dwelling, Domestic dogs(dogs were buried with masters)
