Australia won ODI series against England by 4-1
In a low scoring thriller match, the 5th ODI, Australia successfully defeated England and hence snatches the series 4-1 from England in Adelaide, Australia. The visitors wilt under pressure chasing small total. J. Faulkner became Man of the Match while Man of the series title was given to A. Finch.
Indian women cricket team won ODI series against Sri lanka by 3-0
Indian Women Cricket team won One Day International series against Sri Lanka by defeating the visitors 3-0 in a 3 match series in Vishakapatnam. Skipper Mithali Raj scored unbeaten century(104) as India thrashes the visitors by 95 runs in the final ODI leaving Sri lanka blank to 3-0. The ODI series, which will be followed by three Twenty 20 matches from January 25, was a highly successful one for India.
Sri Lanka Women Cricket team clinches T-20 series against India by 2-1
Sri Lanka defeated India by six wickets with seven balls to spare in the third and final Women’s T-20 match to won the series 2-1 at ACA-VDCA stadium in Vishakapatnam. Shashikala Siriwardene, Sri Lankan Captain played a responsibily to remain unbeaten on 46 to guide the visitors to Victory.
India loses ODI 5 match series 4-0 against New Zealand
On the last day of January, New Zealand won the ODI series of Five matches against India by 4-0 defeating visitors in the last match by 87 runs at Wellington, New Zealand. New Zealand gave a target of 304 runs to India, but India got all out at the score of 216. Ross Taylor became man of the match. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Indian Skipper, in this fifth match became the fourth fastest batsman in the ODI series to complete 8000 runs.
Saina won Syed Modi International Grand Prix title 2014
On 26th January, Indian Badminton sensational Saina Nehwal won the Syed Modi International Grand Prix title 2014 by defeating the teenager P.V Sindhu 21-14, 21-17 in the final match held at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The triumph also ended Saina’s title-drought that followed since she claimed the Denmark Open in Oct 2012.China’s Xue Song won Men’s single title by defeating K Srikanth of India. In Mixed doubles, China’s Yilv Wang and Huang Yaqiong beat compatriot Kaixiang Huang and Quinchen Chen. In Women’s Double , China’s Quinchen Chen and Yi Fan Jia defeated Yu Xiaohan and Huang Yaqiong of China.
Stanislas Wavrinka clinches Australian Open men’s title 2014
Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka claimed his first Grand Slam title in the dramatic fashion by defeating World No.1 Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the Australian Open final in Melbourne. Wawrinka won his first slam title in 36 attempts and it took thirteen years for Wawrinka to upgrade his profile.
Li Na won Australian Open Women’s title 2014
China’s Li Na clinches Women’s title by defeating Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 7-6, 6-0 at Melbourne Park in Australian Open. earlier Li Na was the runner up of two finals in last three years. 31 year old champion Li Na, has now become the oldest women ever to win a Grand Slam.

Indian sensational sania Mirza and her Romanion Partner Horia Tecau loses their mixed doubles title to French Canadian Pair Kristina Mladenovic and Daniel Nestor from 6-3, 6-2 at Melbourne Park.
Netherlands won Hero Hockey World league 2014
The Netherlands thrashes New Zealand 7-2 to claim its maiden Hero Hockey World League title at the Major Dhyan Chand national Stadium in Delhi. India finishes 6th after get defeated by Belgium 2-1 in the classification Match. The result gave India 260 points.

On 30th January 2014, Heena Sandhu’s score of 203.8 in 10 M Air Pistol set at Munich World Cup in Nov 2013 is recognized as World Record.This declaration was made officially by International Shooting Sports Federation(ISSF). In the shooting world cup held at Munich, Germany last year Nov, 2013 India’s Heena Sandhu defeated the World Champion Zorana Arunovic of Serbia by 5.2 points in the final and hence got the Gold Medal.Now Heena thus become the first Indian Women to hold the world record in shooting.
India Won Gold in Men’s Basketball at Lusofonia games
On 27th January 2014, India clinches the gold medal in Men,s Basketball event at the Lusofonia Games held at Shyam Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao in Goa by defeating Angola 77-70 . In the Women’s Category, Gold was won by Mozambique by defeating Angola 73-49 and India won bronze in that event. In the whole event India successfully taken 79 medals, grabing 29 gold, 24 silver and 26 Bronze medals.
