Australia sweeps England 3-0 in T-20

On 3rd February, Australia finally sweeped England 3-0 in T-20 series to end the miserable tour of England. Australia’s George Bailey smashed 40 off 20 balls, and was awarded man of the match. England got all out on 111 against 193 of Australians, in 18th over to gift the series to Australia. This completed the disastrous 103 day tour of England, who lost Ashes 5-0 and ODI series by 4-1, giving Australia a 12-1 win over three formats.

Karnataka won Ranji Trophy after 14 yrs

After a long session of 14 years, finally Karnataka grabbed Ranji Trophy by defeating two time champion Maharashtra in Hyderabad. Karnataka while chasing a target of 157  runs on the fifth day, clinched the win by just losing 3 wickets. 20 year old leg-spinner Shreyash Gopal and R Vinay Kumar grabbed 4 wickets each for Karnataka. Lokesh Rahul, the batsman from Karnataka won the Man of the Match prize for his contribution of 131 runs.The last time Karnataka won the National Championship(Ranji Trophy) was in 1999 by defeating Madhya Pradesh in the final. Karnataka collected the winning prize of Rs. 2 crore and Trophy as well.

Karnataka Clinches the Irani Cup

After winning Ranji trophy, Karnataka again proved his dominance by succesfullyclinching Irani cup in Bangalore, defeating Rest of India. This is the fifth Irani Cup for Karnataka and thus it became the first Ranji trophy Champion in the last eight seasons to win the Irani Cup. Karnataka beat Rest of India by an innings and 220 runs to grab the Cup. Shreyas Gopal’s 5 wicket and Vinay Kumar’s 4 wicket haul helped Karnataka to clinch the title. R Vinay Kumar got the Man of the Match award.


Davis cup tie win for India

India performed thier best play at  Davis Cup  Asia-Oceania group “I” tie at the Indore Tennis Club by thrashing Chinese Taipei 5-0 and will meet Korea in second round for a berth in the World Group Play-Off. Indian stars Yuki Bhambhri, Somdev Devvarman, Rohan Bopanna, Saketh Myneni, led India to a one step ladder ahead to play with Korea in next round. Davis Cup, which is also called as World Cup of Tennis is an annual international event in which players represents their country. This event is managed by International Tennis Federation (ITF).


Indian Boxing contingent finishes 4th at 58th Bocskai International event, Hungary.

Indian boxers again proved their marvelous performance by bagging 4 medals and grabbing 4th position at 58th Bocskai International event in Hungary. India won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medal. L Devendro singh won Gold, Manoj kumar won silver while Sumit sangwan and Sunil Kumar won bronze respectively.


Abhinav Bindra became the first player to win 3 gold medals in Tri-series shooting

On 8th February 2014, Abhinav Bindra, India’s Shooting sensational became world’s first person to win 3 gold medals in a Tri-Series shooting in Air Pistol event played at Hague, Netherlands. To win his 3rd gold, Bindra scored 209.3 in the finals defeating the second placed shooter by 2.4 points.



Joshna Chinappa won Winnipeg Open Title, 2014

World No.20 and fourth seed India’s Joshna Chinappa won her eighth WSA tour squash event, defeating Heba El Torky of Egypt 11-13, 11-8, 11-5, 3-11, 12-10 in the finals of the Winter Club Open, in Winnipeg, Canada. Joshna Chinappa is a Chennai based Squash player and first Indian girl to win British Squash Championship title in 2003 in under 19 event.
