Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina got elected as the 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. He took the name of Francis I . Pope Francis I, 76, became the first Latin American and the first Jesuit to become Pontiff.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio alias Pope Francis was born on Dec 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, one of the five children of Italian railway worker.
In 1958, he lost a lung following Respiratory illness, he is however in good health as confirmed by Vatican.
He holds degrees in Chemistry and Philosophy.
His religious career started in 1969, when he was ordained Jesuit Priest.
In 1992, he was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Diocese of Buenos Aires.
He was Created as Cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 2001.
