New chief Justice of India-Justice Palanisamy Sathasivam

Justice Palanisamy Sathasivam was sworn in as 40th New Chief Justice of India  at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranav Mukherjee.

64 year old Mr. Palanisamy Sathasivam is the first CJI from Tamil Nadu. The term of his office will be till April 26th 2014. He succeeded Former CJI Altamas Kabir.

About Chief Justice of India – Palanisamy Sathasivam

* Born on 27th April 1949 to a farmer’s family in a small village, Kadappanallur of Erode district, Tamil Nadu.

* Mr. Palanisamy Sathasivam has B.A and B L degrees and was the first from his family to become graduate.

* After successfully completion of law in 1973, he got appointed as counsel in Madras High Court and got elevated to Bar in 1996.

* Has become Supreme Court Judge in 2007.

* He is known for his punctuality , as he has never taken leave from office.

* He will serve as Chief Justice of India till 27th April 2014.

* Conviction of Manu Sharma in Jessica Lal murder case.

* Dismissal of P A Sangma’s plea against the election of Pranav Mukherjee as the honorable President of India.
