Double trap shooter Ronjon Sodhi was chosen for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2013, nation’s highest sports award.

Upon announcement of National Sports Awards 2013, Ronjon Sodhi’s name was announced for Khel ratna award.Other awardees of Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award and Dhyanchand Award were also announced which will be presented on 31st Aug 2013 by The President of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan

About Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is the India’s highest honored sports award given every year to the eminent sports personalities for their outstanding performance during their sports career.

This award scheme was launched in the year 1991- 1992 by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with the objective of honouring the sports person to enhance their general status and to give them greater dignity and place of honour in the society.

Under this scheme, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee gets an award of Rs. 7.5 Lacs along with a medal and citation.

About Ronjan Sodhi

India’s Double trap shooter Ronjan Singh Sodhi was born on 23rd Oct 1979 at Ferozepur, Punjab.He is India’s premier double trap shooter, the only Indian to win gold in shooting in 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou (China). He was also embraced with 2 silver medals at 2010 commonwealth games in Delhi. In 2011 Ronjan won a silver medal at Beijing (China) World Cup.

What is a Double Trap Shooting ?

Double Trap Shooting is actually a clay target shooting competition in which two clay discs are thrown simultaneously from a source at around 80 km/hr speed in a gap of around 0 to 1 sec and shooters have to shoot these clay discs turn by turn.
